Uncategorized Apr 12, 2021

This week I have a conversation about success with Halima Salim, the founder of the Female Language Academy and CEO of Blackboard English. Starting a business is one thing. Experiencing fruits of the early days of hard work is another.

If you're starting a business or growing one, listen in as Halima and I talk about what it was like when we first started experiencing success in our businesses. Success didn't feel the way we thought it would!

If you have a dream of being your own CEO...

Episode 31: How your strengths might be making you an unnecessary perfectionist

Uncategorized Mar 29, 2021

I’ve met quite a few entrepreneurs who tell me that they’re a “recovering perfectionist.” I’ll nod my head and say, “I’m one too.” When building something from the ground up it usually doesn’t look like what we envisioned, but you have to start somewhere and starting “somewhere” usually means putting something out there, seeing what happens, then tweaking it and putting it out there again.

Perfectionists have an...

Episode 30: What's your "what" and why do you want it?

Uncategorized Mar 22, 2021

One of the hardest questions to answer is, "What do you want?"

The second hardest question?

"Why?"

I can look at others and point to what they have and say, "I want that!" But I need to ask myself, "why?" Why do I think I want that?

When it comes to business, the "what" is the direction, the "why" is the reason for heading out in the first place.

The reasons I want my business will be different than the reasons you want yours. The key is to remember...

Episode 29: How do you define productivity?

Uncategorized Mar 20, 2021

When you crawl into bed, what makes you feel like you had a good day?

I know I had a good day when I've connected with others. In fact, that's how I structured my business. I connect with strangers every day.

Now, on the backend of my business there are things I absolutely don't like doing, like learning a new accounting tool or planning out social content, but I can't have a business if I don't do the things that are necessary to run a business.

Getting things...

Episode 28: When strengths go on vacation

Uncategorized Mar 20, 2021

Ever go on vacation and wonder why you’re not having as much fun as you thought you’d be having? Sounds crazy, but when we go on vacation, so do our strengths. And if you’ve ever wondered if something was wrong with you, it might have been that your strengths didn’t know what to do with themselves. This week on the show I discuss how my strengths went awry on a recent family trip and how I’ll manage them the next time I go away.

And if you want to connect...

Episode 27: What’s the gift you're giving yourself in 2021?

Uncategorized Jan 04, 2021

We just came out of a season where it’s all about giving gifts to others. As we enter a new season of goals and resolutions, what’s the gift you’re going to give yourself? Sometimes, to make a dream or goal come true, we need to give ourselves a “gift” that’s bigger than a material item. Maybe it’s therapy, an online class, or a new baking tool.

What can you give yourself as you begin 2021 that’ll help you move forward in your...

Episode 26: This is a long-tail game

Uncategorized Dec 28, 2020

Anything worthwhile takes awhile to come to fruition. No matter what it is, remembering, when you’re doing the work of showing up but not seeing results, it’s helpful to remind yourself that “this is a long-tail game.”

We get to choose what we bring forward and leave behind in 2021. Don’t leave behind anything you truly want to make happen in the new year. Keep doing the work. It’ll pay off.

Did you know that knowing your strengths can help...

Episode 25: Personality tests are personal

Uncategorized Nov 30, 2020

The thing about personality tests are that they’re personal. We forget that when we get our results and we start telling people about them. The thing, most people don’t *really* care about your results, but you should! Personality assessments are personal and that means they’re for you to dive deep into them and recognize how your results show up in your life.

If you’re a business owner growing a team and you want to know how your strengths affect your business...

Episode 24: When superpowers go rogue

Uncategorized Nov 23, 2020

How many times have you thought you had a mental “block” to overcome? I know I’ve thought a lot about it before and for the longest time I thought something was wrong with me. But actually, nothing was (or is) wrong with me, it was just that my greatest strengths were getting in the way of me moving forward. They had become my weakness.

In this podcast, I share a few examples of how one’s strengths can get in the way and how they show up as weaknesses....

Uncategorized Nov 16, 2020

When Bobby Klinck said he’d be willing to come on my show and talk about his experience having me come into his biz to review his strengths and his team member’s strengths, I said, “Great, here’s a link to schedule a time!”

Bobby’s a smart guy. He’s self-aware and his business is going really well, but even he learned things about himself that has since changed the course of his business. For the good.
