Episode 51: Which one are you? The Four Domains


How knowing Gallup’s four domains will help you in your business.

Relationship Building, Influencing, Strategic Thinking, Executing. Which one are you?

Has anyone ever asked you for tips on how to do something and you couldn’t believe they were asking you? There’s a reason for that. You’re extremely good at something that they’re not and they recognize it. The key is to understand how you think, feel, and behave differently than others and then build your business and life around that. 


Gallup has found that there are four different domains that the 34 different CliftonStrengths fall into: relationship building, influencing, strategic thinking, and executing.

Relationship Building

Relationship building is the ability to build strong relationships. If this is you, you’re able to hold a team together, you have friends everywhere, no one is a stranger, everyone matters, able to converse with others without a problem, and you care about others.


Productivity for you is being with people.


Talent themes in the Relationship Building domain are: Adaptability, Connectedness, Developer, Empathy, Harmony, Includer, Individualization, Positivity, and Relator.


 Influencing is the ability to inspire people to take action. If this is you, you’re able to take charge, speak up, make sure others are heard, and move people. You can easily get buy-in from numerous folks, can communicate difficult things in easy to understand ways, they can help others understand why making things better is a good thing, can sell people on an idea, and get people on board.


Productivity for you is getting people to take action. 


Talent themes in the Influencing Domain are: Activator, Command, Communication, Competition, Maximizer, Self-Assurance, Significance, Woo.

Strategic Thinking

Strategic Thinking is the ability to imagine what could be. If this is you, you’re able to absorb and analyze information to make better decisions, you’re always thinking about the best way forward, you have tons of ideas, you might be a dreamer or a predictor of the future. You ask, “What would happen if this happened or if that happened.”  You might be bookworms or love academics, debating and wrestling with ideas or being creative.


Productivity for you is thinking. 


Talent themes in the Strategic Thinking Domain are: Analytical, Context, Futuristic, Ideation, Input, Intellection, Learner, Strategic.


Executing is the ability to make things happen. If this is you, you’re able to finish things, you love getting things done, you love to do lists. There’s urgency in your day and you’re results oriented. You might have a hard time relaxing.


Productivity for you is checking things off the list.


Talent themes in the Executing Domain are: Achiever, Arranger, Belief, Consistency, Deliberative, Discipline, Focus, Responsibility, Restorative.
