When you first start a business, people recommend doing “the thing that you’re good at.” The problem though is that a lot of us are good at things that we don’t actually enjoy doing. It can be hard to separate out what you’re good at from what you’re innately good at. I don’t know about you, but I know that I don’t want to have a business that I don’t enjoy even if I am good at doing something.
Don’t get me wrong, business building is hard and there are lots of things that I don’t enjoy doing - like figuring out which accounting software to use and how to use it. But when it comes to offering services that we can make money at and make a difference in someone’s life it’s extremely valuable to know how we’re wired so we’re not guessing and headed down the wrong path.
I spent YEARS figuring out what type of business I wanted to have. I knew I wanted a business and I even started different ones, but I learned the hard way that I was wired for a specific one.
